The 2018 Proposed ASSE International Bylaws Revisions are now available for review. The proposed revisions, as well as proposed additions to ASSE International’s Organizational Policies, can be viewed and downloaded here:

The majority of the 2018 Bylaws Revisions include adding, deleting, or changing wording to make the Bylaws reflect ASSE’s current organizational practices and make the Bylaws clearer and easier to interpret.

The largest proposed revisions would move select ASSE International committees to the ASSE International Organizational Policies where they can more easily be revised as needed.

The ASSE International Board of Directors is not proposing the elimination of any of committees. The committees that are essential to the existence of the society, and those that are required because of accreditation from an outside agency, would not be moved. All other committees and liaisons would be moved to the Organizational Policies. The result will be more accurate Bylaws and appropriate committees to address the current needs of the society and the industry. The committees section of the Organizational Policies will be publicly available so that members and potential members can see and choose how they want to be involved with ASSE International.

The descriptions of committees would also be removed from the bylaws and added to Organizational Policies. Moving this information to Organizational Policies allows for the descriptions to be simplified, have the description reflect what the committee is currently doing, and give direction concerning purpose and scope. The result will be cleaner and more readable Bylaws and more current and applicable committees, liaisons, and awards to address the current needs of the society and the industry.

The proposed 2018 Proposed ASSE International Bylaws Revisions will be voted upon by ASSE membership on Oct. 17 at Business Session #1 of the 2018 ASSE International Annual Meeting.
