ASSE staff and technical committees are constantly reviewing ways to improve our certification exams.

When you make a commitment to advance your career, becoming certified sets you apart from the crowd — it shows that you are a professional and are willing to take the time to advance your professional credibility.

To ensure we’re administering the best examinations, here are some updates on what we’ve been working on at ASSE headquarters in the professional certification department.

The 15010 Technical Committee is currently reviewing the exam in its entirety to ensure that all questions are up to date and can be referenced back to the most recent code. The committee will meet monthly for the better part of the rest of the year to complete this project. The committee is also removing, editing, and writing new questions so the item bank for the exams is populated with questions that are timely and meet current best practices as they relate to the 15010 standard.

Additional committees will begin the same process this year, namely the Cross-Connection Control certification examination.

Also, the 12000 Technical Committee recently voted to break the committee up into subcategories. It was determined that to improve the examination, content subject matter experts would be broken up into four different categories as they relate to the 12000 standard. The new categories are as follows:

  • 12010/12020/12025 — ICRA
  • 12050/12051 — Air Quality
  • 12060/12061/12062/12063 — Water Quality
  • 12080 — Legionella

A new application has been developed so when people apply to join the 12000 Technical Committee, they will be given the opportunity to check off which category applies to them and their area of expertise.

Since this is the Water Quality edition, I would like to mention that with increasing issues with our water in the headlines across the country, the need for qualified, knowledgeable professionals to install and maintain these systems has never been higher.

ASSE is proud to offer the 12080 Legionella Water Safety and Management Personnel certification program. This program is specifically developed for members of building water management teams, water safety teams, and other interested parties involved in the development of risk assessment analysis and water management sampling plans for protection from Legionella and other waterborne pathogens.

How you can become certified:

  • Successfully complete a 24-hour training course encompassing all aspects of the ASSE Standard 12080
  • Successfully pass a 100-question written exam issued by ASSE
