Have you ever wondered, “Why am I doing this to myself? Why am I taking time away from family/friends to take these courses when I could be doing something else?” The answer is that you are among many others who understand the importance of lifelong learning and that by expanding your education, you are not only gaining knowledge to be a better service provider, but you are also protecting the public. I would like to congratulate you if you have taken the extra steps to become certified!

My name is Kathleen Huttner. I am the new senior director of Testing and Credentials at ASSE. My goal is not only to provide you information on why being certified is important, but to also inspire and challenge you to take someone who is just starting their journey in the plumbing industry and be a mentor to them. The knowledge and experience that you have is priceless and if you can pass it along to the next generation, it will only make the field stronger.

Being certified verifies that you have taken the extra steps to learn beyond your original training and possibly beyond the scope of your original training. You have taken an examination that was developed by a committee of your peers who are comprised of industry professionals and experts in your field filled with questions that were meant to test your knowledge, skills and abilities. Now that you have passed, you will hopefully move forward on your path and continue to learn.

ASSE administers various certification examinations. If there is an area of pursuit in which
you are interested and don’t know where to start, please contact the ASSE headquarters and speak to either Janice McNellis or Tracy Schuster; they will be able to help you find a school to reach out to for training. Or you can go to our website www.asse-plumbing.org, click on the schools box, and research from there.

I look forward to getting to know you either through emails or in person at meetings. Please be sure to say hello!
